5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a ketone derivative, which is a natural amino acid widely found in nature and plays an important role in living organisms.



3.1 5-ALA and iron are key components of heme synthesis in the body, major components of hemoglobin and myoglobin, and essential components of cytochromes, and are therefore key components of mitochondrial energy production function. Mitochondrial dysfunction is associated with resistance and type 2 diabetes, and studies have shown that increased glucose production leads to decreased 5-ALA production. Preclinical and clinical studies suggest that dietary supplementation with 5-ALA, which has antioxidant properties, using a combination of SFC may be beneficial in patients with diabetes.
Used as antidepressant, API, intermediate.
