Product Description

Product Description
Ergosterol is a sterol that is present on the cell membrane of fungi and plays a role in maintaining cell membrane integrity, similar to mammalian cholesterol. Polyene antifungal agents (amphotericin B, myclobutanil) are a subset of macrolide antibiotics that bind to ergosterol on fungal cell membranes.

1.Precursors of vitamin D2

Ergosterol, also known as ergosterol, is a type of steroid. Some of its effects are the same as those of vitamin D2. Ergosterol is an important component of microbial cell membranes and plays an important role in ensuring the integrity of cell membranes, the activity of membrane-bound enzymes, membrane fluidity, cell viability and cellular material transport. It is used as an intermediate in the production of hormonal drugs. It has the role of vitamin D2.

2.Role in fungi
Ergosterol is a sterol found in fungi and named after ergot. Ergosterol is a component of the cell membrane of yeast and other fungi and has many of the same functions as cholesterol in animal cells. Its specificity in higher fungi is thought to be related to the climatic instability (highly variable humidity and moisture conditions) encountered by these organisms in their typical ecological niches (plant and animal surfaces, soil). Thus, despite the increased energy requirements of ergosterol synthesis (if compared to cholesterol), ergosterol is thought to have evolved as an almost ubiquitous and evolutionarily favorable fungal alternative to cholesterol.

3.Targets for antifungal drugs
Because ergosterol is present in the cell membranes of fungi, but not in animal cell membranes, it is a useful target for antifungal drugs. Ergosterol is also present in the cell membranes of some protozoa, such as trypanosomes. This is the basis for the use of some antifungal agents against sleeping sickness in West Africa. Amphotericin B is an antifungal drug that targets ergosterol. It physically binds to ergosterol in the membrane, thus forming polar pores in the fungal membrane. This causes ions (mainly potassium and hydrogen) and other molecules to leak out, thus killing the cells. In most cases, amphotericin B has been replaced by safer drugs, but is still used for life-threatening fungal or protozoal infections despite the side effects

1.Post-pregnancy reparation
Ergot contains a variety of alkaloids, mainly ergotoxin. It is commonly used for postpartum hemostasis and uterine rejuvenation. It has a strong and long-lasting effect on stimulating the uterine muscles. It is more sensitive to the pregnant uterus and is effective after delivery and new birth, even producing tonic contractions.

2.Vitamin D
Vitamin D is prepared by dissolving ergosterol in a solvent such as chloroform, ether or cyclohexane, adding it to a flask of quartz glass and irradiating it with ultraviolet light
