Povidone iodine (PVP-I), also known as iodophorone, is a chemical compound of povidone, hydrogen iodide and elemental iodine. It is commonly used as an antiseptic for skin disinfection before and after surgery. It can be used to disinfect the hands of healthcare providers and the skin of those under their care, as well as for minor wounds. It can be applied as a liquid or powder to the skin. Side effects include skin irritation and sometimes swelling. If used on large wounds, kidney problems, high blood sodium and metabolic acidosis may occur. Not recommended for use in women less than 32 weeks pregnant. It is not recommended for regular use by people with thyroid problems or who are taking lithium. It contains 10% povidone, total iodine species equal to 10,000 ppm or 1% total titratable iodine. It works by releasing iodine, which causes the death of a range of microorganisms


1.Anti-infection (topical)
