Acarbose, an α-glucosidase inhibitor, is a complex oligosaccharide with a structure similar to oligosaccharide. This non-oligosaccharide "pseudooligosaccharide" can compete with oligosaccharide at the brush border of cells in the upper small intestine and reversibly bind to α-glucosidase. Various alpha glycosidase enzymes such as enzyme maltase, isomaltose, glucose, the activity of amylase and sucrase, make sugars such as starch into maltose (disaccharides), malt trisaccharide and dextrin (oligosaccharides) slow down and then broken down into glucose, sucrose into glucose and fructose at a slower pace, thus causing the intestinal absorption of glucose, It can relieve postprandial hyperglycemia and reduce blood glucose. Long-term use can reduce the concentration of fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin.
4.1. Oligosaccharides reversibly inhibited α-glycosidase activity in the brush border of small intestinal mucosa, slowly reduced the rate of digestion of complex polysaccharides and sucrose, and subsequently delayed glucose absorption. Used in diabetes.
4.2. For the treatment of insulin-dependent and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
It is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus and reduce postprandial blood glucose in patients with impaired glucose tolerance.
