L-Citrulline Powder is an alpha-amino acid with the chemical formula C6H13N3O3, which is produced from ornithine and aminocarbonyl phosphate in the urea cycle or as a by-product of NO production from arginine catalyzed by nitric oxide synthase (NOS). It is present in melons such as watermelon. In humans, L-Citrulline is a non-protein amino acid that is not involved in protein synthesis but has peptide bond forming ability and was previously thought to be present only as an intermediate product of the ornithine-urea cycle.
